Pelosi NEVER said she was "struggling to make ends meet."

It's a phoney baloney quote. She never said it. I know I'm starting a thread on a topic that already has a thread but I think false quotes like this need to be shot down as quickly as possible so that they don't become entrenched as "common knowledge" like the "Gore claimed he invented the Internet" lie. (He never made that claim; that's the lie.)

Here's the original story: http://thehill.com/homenews/house/283341-pelosi-congressional-pay-cut-undermines-dignity-of-the-job-

3. I can't stand when people paraphrase then use quotation marks...

as if somebody actually said what they paraphrased. Drives me nuts.

I was wondering why I didnt see a link to the actual "quote" anywhere. It doesn't exist?

9. point is... she never actually said "struggling to make ends meet".

she said "It's a hard question to ask me because most of my colleagues are the breadwinners in their families," she said. "A pay cut to me doesn't mean as much."

msn decided to add the struggling part themselves. A+ journalism right there.

6. Right. She said some people making only $174K are struggling.

And your outrage here is noted.

She said something incredibly stupid and offensive about people who make $174,000 per year.

But she was not talking about herself personally.

So her comment is only like 97% offensive instead of 99% offensive.

Hooray.

8. I have missed where she is quoted as saying...

"struggling to make ends meet".

Here's her exact quote from the source msm used:

"It's a hard question to ask me because most of my colleagues are the breadwinners in their families," she said. "A pay cut to me doesn't mean as much."

She NEVER says "struggling to make ends meet".

7. No, she said that the "dignity of the job" is somehow worth more than struggling on 174K

If it's that difficult for these lawmakers; find another fucking job!

Just like the rest of us; GASP!

10. It's not a false quote. You posted one article from one source and proud2BlibKansan

posted an article from a different source and "struggling to make ends meet." was in the article that was quoted. But no matter what, Nancy inferred that some politicians are struggling,. and that's a real joke.

"It's a hard question to ask me because most of my colleagues are the breadwinners in their families," she said. "A pay cut to me doesn't mean as much."

msn made the struggling bullshit up. Plain & simple.

16. no it wasnt.

it wasn't in quotes at all. See? From the link Kansan used:

Pelosi, whose husband, Paul, is a legit real-estate mogul, was quick to add that slicing her own paycheck wouldn’t "mean as much" as those senators who struggle to make ends meet on $174,000 per year.

msn interjected that phrase themselves and omitted the full quote that appears in their source. Their "source" article is actually the one linked in this OP (& on msn).

Its some serious bullshit journalism msn pulled which was obviously intended to inflame. And apparently, at least on DU, it worked. They used three whole words from her original quote and turned it into a friggin witch hunt. It'd be laughable if it wasn't so infuriating.

"struggling to make ends meet." I copied and pasted from the article. All I added were the quotation marks. Perhaps it was changed. But IMO Kansan did nothing wrong. It's the media but I don't see a witch hunt, And it was a silly remark for Nancy to say. If these politicians are struggling maybe they should do their job and get on board with plans to fix the economy instead of torpedoing it like they have been doing.

It was in the article kansan posted because the MSN writer MADE IT UP. Nancy NEVER said it. Why is this so difficult? All you have to do is look at MSNs own linked source to see the actual quote!!

Neither of the articles were changed. Its a bullshit "quote" that isnt even a quote! ahhhh!

Don't we have enough real shit to worry about without being trolled by some hack at msn? FFS! I can't understand why we're so quick and so ravenous when it comes to eating our own.

Now we'll have to keep debunking this bullshit "quote" ad nauseam while DU freaks out over something that was NOT said. Great.
