If Congressional Salaries Bother You, This Really Should...
The fact that the superintendent in our school district, which is only one small, rural school with only about 1,000 kids total in grades K-12, makes slightly over $100,000 in a district that not only has a budget deficit of between $800,000 to $900,000, but also where top tier teachers, who have been in the classroom for more than 30 years, are making only about HALF of what the superintendent makes, at slightly more than $60,000/year.
Oh, and did I mention that the school board continues to increase salaries for the administration, yet the teachers salaries have been frozen.
Don't get me wrong, there are some really good and hard working superintendents, but when your district is cutting teachers, curriculum, and increasing class sizes so you can continue to maintain and slightly increase your six figure salary annually, THAT kind of fiscal irresponsibility frustrates me MUCH more than the fact that my Congressman makes $174,000, considering my Congressman (even though he is a Republican), has MANY more expenses and responsibilities than a rural superintendent.
