Republican Party vs Tea Party?

Why did we have to listen to two responses to the President's SOTU message? One was from Marco Rubio and one was from Rand Paul. It is worth noting that both of these Senators are favorites of the Tea Party.

The Republican Party, and the country, has been taken hostage by the Tea Party operatives in the House and Senate. There was a time when John McCain and Lindsey Graham were considered "moderates" in their Party. No more.

Republicans are scared to death of being primaried by a Tea Party opponent if they do not ascribe to the far right demands of the Tea Partiers. That is why we have gridlock in Washington.

They are actually two separate Parties but the Republican Party would be nothing if they lose their Tea Party members. How long can they continue to meet the demands that are put upon them? They are becoming more and more out of touch with where most Americans stand on the issues.

It cannot end pretty. There will have to be a divorce between the Republicans and the Tea Partiers or it is just a matter of time before the Repubs go the way of the Whigs and Know-Nothings.

In the meantime, everyone else has to live with their policies of blocking government and cutting programs. There are no profiles in courage in the modern-day Republican Party.
