(3,547 posts)I can see the rationale for some of their fears. They look at places such as NY and CA and believe that is where the Democrats and Obama want to take the U.S. (NY is essentially confiscating all magazines over 10 rounds and there is a bill going on a "publicity tour" that would confiscate all registered assault weapons in CA). Plus it doesnt help that the new AWB introduced by Sen. Feinstein would require every person who registers an assault weapon to pay $200 per weapon. To some people that is defacto confiscation- if you own 5 weapons that fall under tht definition you would need to pay $1000- how many people do you know that can just open up a checkbook and right that check?

(3,547 posts)In fact every state that has a law on them has a different definition. So what is an assault weapon in NY might not be an assault weapon in NJ.
The isssue in this case is that the proposed AWB is very expansive- in other words the term is definied loosely. So even target rifles like this are now considered AW
The key issue is that since there is no agreed upon definition of assault weapons it can be made as a catch all term to ban anything and everything. There is no stopping someone from writing legislation that would define assault weapons as "any firearm capable of firing a bullet"- which would mean that every firearm in america is now an assault weapons
Reasonable?- what is so reasonable about adding an extra charge to previously legally owned property in order to keep it? Especially one as high as $200 per item.
On edit: according to the legislation this is an assault weapon
What type of gun is it?- its a high-priced target pistol used in olympic and international competitions. thats how silly this law is
