NYT LTTE's: Going Green Is Good for the Economy

The strongest argument for a government response to climate disruption is that we’re paying staggering costs for more extreme weather events even now, that we’re barreling toward a preventable, human-caused catastrophe, and that failing to avert that would be unconscionable.

Recent reports warning of temperatures rising 5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit this century, including the draft National Climate Assessment, confirm the urgency of slashing emissions.

When renowned experts like James E. Hansen warn that we’re running out of time, when farmland bakes and subways flood from surging seas, we can no longer let legislators who deny science hold the world hostage.

President Obama can block the toxic tar sands Keystone XL pipeline, cut carbon emissions from power plants and take other actions to leave a strong climate legacy. He must act courageously, and now.
