Attempted a stroll over to Freeperville...down for 50+ hours. New check site

Last edited Wed Feb 20, 2013, 11:11 AM - Edit history (2)

I just wanted to see some of the repsonses regarding Hubris....could this be the reason it is down? Straightening tin foil hat.

Seems like the site is down and has been down for 13 hours+ as of this post.

While trying to figure out why my server was not connecting, I came accross this little gem of a site "Is It Down Right Now" (iidrn) that tells me for sure the problem is with FreeRepublic...and not some sort of new firewall etc on my end. Chances are, many already know about this site...but as usual I'm late to the game and throught well maybe there are other like me, a little slow on the uptake.

not just by Bushco, but even Rim Job regarding hating on Mittens and banning any supporters to the support of his presidential run. To the Mittens election group and Rove being so blindsided with the 'inevitable win' that just did not happen. Not to mention the constant money soak that FR perpetuates on it's regulars?

ETA: This is a more recent update:

Received another message from John. He's going to purchase a new database server today and hopefully get it installed tonight. He's also redirected all of our FR traffic to a "maintenance" page where we've left a message for our users.
Thanks and we apologize again for the down time.

FR database server down
Posted By: jimrob
Tue Feb 19, 2013 12:41 am |

Just received a message from John. Not good. If he can't get the database server
rebooted and running soon, he may have to drive up to San Jose to get hands on.
May be down awhile if this is so.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freerepublic2/message/46521

The natives are revolting:

Very sorry, Jim Rob. FR is by far and away the best forum I have the
pleasure and honor to be a part of.

I hate to say it, because I think you've talked about it before, but it really
may be time to reboot FR on a more scalable, less homegrown system. I just
don't want to lose FR to a system that can't grow, especially in these dark
times. We need FR to live!

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freerepublic2/message/46543

But brace yourself - this is a goodie:

FR's present software is the only acceptable package out there. Nothing else
even comes close. We have far more features available than any other site has.
It would be like all the other stone age joke sites.

Freerepublic is a place of sanity in an increasingly deluded world. Like most of the internet, 90% is dross, but the other 10% is pure gold. Articles are discussed, local information brought to bear, subject matter experts chime in, and political analysts explain the spin. Probably the best site on the net for understanding current events.

Guadalupe- In one comment you are able to allude Limbaugh (Draft Dodging, uneducated drug addict who lives from paid Gold Digger to Gold Digger) four times without attribution. Congrats. Do you have any thoughts of your own (like that ever happens with conservatives). Have you considered that Jim Robinson has taken the cash from the recent Beg-A-Thon and run off. He has been living off the tax payers for years for his health care, now he lives off the fools who donate to his Nazi Comment Page.

When it's 'up' it imparts the same amount of intelligence as when it's 'down'. Which is none.

FreeRepublic does a public service by rounding up all the right wing nuts in one deluded and deranged place.

Hopefully it will stay down. FR is a complete waste of perfectly good bandwidth.

Sorry, if you're seeing this message our Free Republic server is still down. We're working to bring it back online. Nothing sinister and no hack attack. Just a hardware crash. Definitely will have to replace our database server.

We're in the process of purchasing a new db server and hope to install it later tonight today.

Very sorry about the downtime.
