Texas lesbian couple finds motorcycle covered in urine and feces in hate crime

On Saturday night, partners Claudia Friedman and Christy Stewart came home to their Houston apartment complex to find Stewart’s motorcycle smeared with animal feces and urine. According to the Dallas Voice, the vandal wrote, “Fuck you move your dike (sic) bike now” in paint on the concrete around the bike.

The bike’s cover was ruined, but the motorcycle itself was unharmed. Stewart said that she and Friedman left the apartment complex in the afternoon and returned around 8:00 p.m. to find the mess and the hateful message. The couple has lived in the apartment for three years, but this is the first trouble they have had.

The couple called the police, who categorized the incident as a hate crime, but are not currently pursuing any leads. There are no security cameras in the parking deck where the vandalism occurred.

“Without witnesses, no confrontations with anyone in the past, the police officer said there’s nothing we can do,” Stewart told the Voice.

Stewart said that they have their suspicions about who committed the crime, based on “dirty looks” they have gotten around the apartments and the fact that the handwriting on the concrete floor looks like it belongs to a woman.

In response to the message, the women left the bike parked in the same spot, now bearing a clean cover and a sign that reads, “To the immature vandals: We are NOT moving our bike!”

Because you know, busting college kids smoking pot is so much more important.

This is why we have hate crimes laws at the national level. There are some police departments, DA's and even citizen juries that don't much care about violence and threats against gay people.

6. I'm not certain I agree

It sounds as if there is nothing to pursue. They DID classify it as a Hate Crime, which is appropriate but often not done when the police want to minimize incidents like these. It seems clear that they asked the couple if there were any specific persons who had made threats etc against them but there is not. Aside from "dirty looks" and the impression the couple has that the handwriting looked like a woman's (?) it doesn't sound as if there is anything much the police have to go on.

I wouldn't be shocked to learn that it was human feces. And the spelling (I know, "sic&quot is "dyke". The thing I just can't understand is how someone's sexual orientation impacts anyone other than the person in question. Thirty years ago I had a couple of guys (clearly a couple) living in the apartment above mine. Yeah, they were gay. So what? That's their business and nobody else's.

Sorry, but I really get pissed off when things like this happen. I'm straight and always have been, but I've known a lot of gay people and they have the same rights to live as they want as anyone else. Curiously, while my mom was instrumental in raising me to have no prejudices based on race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or anything else, she's now a FOX/Rush bigot. That makes me sad.

I can't do anything about it. Even my daughters comment on how FOX and Rush are on 24x7 at their house. Okay, they have money, but a lot of people with money know that FOX/Rush is a bunch of right-wing crap. I consider my mom to be intelligent. We agree on a lot of issues. I just can't grasp the mentality that would make someone consider FOX a news source. And don't even get me started on Rush.
