OMG OMGOM OMOGMOGMOGMOGMOMOGOGMOGMOMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All in a very dramatic fast talking concerned voice.
I waited, laughing and rolling around, until I got a person (also fast talking concerned voice) and told him they were seriously insane and needed to get mental health help. Or jump off a cliff. But never ever call me again.
oh my god. These people are freaking insane.
"Conservative Majority Fund to expose Barack Obama and his mysterious past to the American people."
Good lord. HOW did they ever get my name and WHY would they think I was remotely interested?

(3,065 posts)Call 1-888-382-1222. It takes less than a minute to register your cell phone number for 10 years, I think.

(16,254 posts)They are serious, however.
Speaking of calls, I have been getting 4 calls/day/7 from 5 different places...most either "out of area" or the group/company name, but a different number each day. Since the "person" is a recording, there is nothing I could do to stop them...I thought. THEN, I remembered the Do Not Call list, reentered my number and you would not believe how nice and quiet it is around here...almost instantly.
I never liked Bush, but I do have to thank him for that DNC list.

I have been getting a lot of calls to "clean up my credit", which I don't need. And I just figured that these people didn't give a shit about the law and figured no one would turn them in.

(18,402 posts)Gee, I only get robocalls from something to do with the FBI and seniors and crime (I hang up before I hear the message), and to change my electricity provider. Rachel seems to have finally disappeared, along with her credit card calls. I hope she's dead. Deader than a doornail. I hope she suffered.
uppityperson
(115,677 posts)I am glad Rachel got shut down also, read that there was some legal action taken to get rid of her. Yay.
ETA, "Rachel" is "this is Rachel at card holder service. There is nothing wrong with your credit card but..." robocall thing, not a real person. In case someone takes offense at my "slut" joke, it isn't against a real person but a robocall.
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)I guarantee you that I would not take offense at your calling her a slut....or worse.

(4,831 posts)We too have been getting "Rachel" calls for the last year or so. We tried different things...hang up or push one and tell the guy never to call again etc.
Then my wife takes a call from our daughter-in-law, who seldom calls. "Hi, this is Rachel" (yes my dil is named Rachel) ....There's a long pause, My wife, realizing that its not the recording says "REALLY?" "Oh..... Rachel...Hi!"
Odd thing was, she sounded exactly the same!
She's lucky she didn't scream into the phone, "Go to hell, Rachel, you ignorant s....!"

(60,010 posts)She was from Fla and Tex mostly.
Read about it the other day.
The muffler warrenty robot has (knock on wood) stopped calling.
We still get real person sales calls, because Mr.Dixie just had to go ahead and put his damn name in the phone book!
I TOLD him to list our number under a fake name..I always used J. doofus McGillacutty.....
so when the phone rings at dinner time and they ask for "Mrs. Dixie" I know it is a sales call
( we have different last names).
The answering machine does a good screening tho.
I HATES answering the phone, hates it!!!!

(1,110 posts)But yesterday I got a call with the same script and voice as Rachel, but using a different name.
frazzled
(18,402 posts)She obviously has come back, in disguise, to haunt you. I expect she will be ringing my phone soon with her unctuous, seemingly unthreatening voice. But I know her vacant, staring eyes shine in the dark and that she is trying to take over my mind and soul. I will use garlic, crosses, and any other means available to ward off her evil.

(402 posts)The more crazy Conservatives behave and overreach the more they become social pariahs pushing independents and moderate republicans into our camp. These cold calls are not a threat but a gift to liberals.
If he called me i would laugh first wouldn't be able to contain myself and thank him for the fine work they are doing in pushing the country left.
This is why i don't mind people like Sarah Palin or Glen Beck. Sure they are crazy and annoying but By being so openly insane and stupid they destroy the GOP brand so in the end we win.

Thanks for reporting on what sorts of stuff I could be subject to!

(30,947 posts)I still have a landline, but I have Comcast caller alert, which flashes the incoming call number across my TV screen. If I do not recognize the number, I do not answer. I also have voice mail, so if the call is urgent the caller can leave a message.

(12,977 posts)The movement to impeach President Barack Obama has been launched, just days after he won a second term in the White House.
The Conservative Majority Fund, a conservative group known primarily for its birther conspiracy spreading, has launched a robocall campaign to gin up support for the president's impeachment.

Racist Reagan Operatives Behind New Robocall Calling for Obama's Impeachment
By karoli
The minute I heard this ad I could tell it was the product of old-time Reagan-era operatives. ... Yeah, it's the old birther nonsense, but don't shrug it off as the fringe of the Republican party, because it's not. The ad is paid for by the Conservative Majority Fund, champions of Joe Arpaio and birthers to this day. ...
Scott B. MacKenzie is the treasurer for the Conservative Majority Fund. Scott has a long history as a mid-level operative. He ran Pat Buchanan's PAC for his failed 1996 presidential bid, and has a long history of FEC complaints made against him. These days, he is not only treasurer of the PAC that bought the robocall, but also the treasurer of The Conservative Strikeforce. That group's chairman is also a former Reaganite. Here's his description from their website:
Dennis Whitfield is former Deputy Secretary of Labor for President Ronald Reagan. He was Executive Vice President of The American Conservative Union and Senior Vice President of the National Federation of Independent Business.
As for the NFIB, they are a US Chamber of Commerce clone. This is the same group that Mitt Romney spoke to and suggested they threaten their employees with lost jobs if Barack Obama were elected. The NFIB was also the lead litigant in the effort to overturn Obamacare and plays an active role in ALEC. These are the Reagan stalwarts, and they are funding robocalls with racist, nativist undertones.
