Any gun death is terrible. This high profile death is particularly sad. It is almost impossible to believe the story "blade runner" is telling. Why do you need so many shots? It sounds like an abusive relationship to me.
Having said all that, the level of paranoia that "blade runner" exhibited seems extraordinary. However, when you consider how huge the income disparity is in South Africa and the fact that apartheid still exists for all practical purposes economically, it might be reasonable to be scared of burglars. Seeing the houses in that area compared to the townships is so stark.
In any case, the whole matter is just so sick.

(714 posts)She just told us a story about what happened to her Uncle. Apparently it is very bad there and people are frightened...This is some of what she told me...
For all the folks who have been following this unfolding story, I was not sure if I should give you all the latest update. However, if this will help one person escape this kind of tragedy, it would seem to me that there is no real choice.
The latest is as follows :
He was alone at home and attacked by 2 youngsters who stole 2 cell phones, an XBox game and some of his daughters kids clothes. It appears that he was outside and confronted by them and they took him inside tied him up with electrical wires and then beat him too. So unnecessary! He was supposed to fetch his daughters kids from school and when he never arrived the school phoned her and she went to fetch them. When she got home the front door was standing open so she went in and found him in his bedroom. According to the police he had been dead for about 3 hours already and that he did not die immediately! Shocking and disgusting. There have been arrests made and they are linking the guys to the murder.
Now while I am thrilled that arrests have been made, I am not sure that too much is going to be done about it in terms of sentencing. There is so much corruption, so who knows.
My question now is: How many of us are going to sit by and wait till we have yet another one happen? Are we going to be brave enough to help someone leave if it is their hearts desire to do so?
I know my answers to these questions and will post my plan of action in the coming days. Right now this loss is still very raw.
I don't know what is going on over there but people are living in fear...

(15,682 posts)that his paranoia has more to do with being extremely vulnerable while sleeping as a double amputee. He shared about those fears last summer and that he slept with an armed weapon within reach (without needing to use his legs).
In many ways it makes sense. I don't know about how it fits in this tragedy, though

(14,177 posts)This makes more sense. He brandished a gun, she ran to the bathroom and locked the door and didn't have time to dive for better cover before she was hit at least a couple of times.
