Companies, especially food inc, should not be allowed to market to kids ... Ron McDonald should be buried as should the rest of the nefarious clowns... ( that includes Santa Claus )
I hate having to say "No" all the time to my kid .... I don't want my kid drinking Colas ..or greasy fries .. or any crappy sugary liquids ... Until they are older - me and my wife get to decide what is best for them.
Many countries explicitly ban commercials aimed at kids - but that to me is only one way a marketing guy reaches them. They have no bloody business in trying sell their crap to our little ones ..
Don't give me the fucking first amendment crap ...

(3,871 posts)the latest food item that was popular. They both got really sick. I doubt the food had much to do with it as the flu/virus was going around but I never said a word either way. They were both very put off of junk food after that...Bwahahaha, I told them this later and are still non-junk food people.

(34,133 posts)I can't blame them for doing that, life is so difficult now I can't imagine. When I raised mine it was hard enough but not as hard as now. Stick to your ideas of what is best for them. I had to fight the most important battles, in my mind anyway, and cave on some others to avoid isolating them entirely. It worked. At first it did not seem to but now they both make much better choices than many around them.
I totally agree with you. The people who are obligated to make the best decisions have enough problem trying to navigate the world and raise healthy, intelligent kids. They should not have to battle the advertising and corporate greed aiming directly at their children.

(1,941 posts)I consider it the moral equivalent of rape. Because honestly, what's the long-term consequence of any sex abuse on a child, beyond any physical damage? It's the mental damage! There are serious reprecusions and consequences that will follow them for the rest of their lives, causing untold pain and suffering. And advertising is no different. It warps reality, sets expectations, and deliberately tries to create dissatisfaction and desires that can only be assuaged with a purchase. And while not every American has been raped, every American has been advertised to.
This is not belittling rape, this is saying advertising is just as harmful.

(20,014 posts)Advertisers using more children in their TV commercials. Not just ads for kids but also for adults. I'd rather they didn't exploit children or adults' soft spot for children to sell stuff. It has a whiff of desperation.
