Name Calling OK

As far as I am concerned name calling is very appropriate when it comes to ALL of these GOP scum. When what you call them what they really and truly are. It is an honest assessment. I will never apologize to these vermin or Kochroaches.

They have fundamentally destroyed this country in so many ways. And they engage in name called. Return fire is fair play as far as I am concerned. No name is vile enough to equal how despicably evil they are.

Most likely you are certainly correct. Seems like the GOP does that all the time with almost absolute impunity. The notion of civility has passed so long ago.

Still, I suspect that name-calling, no matter how creative, will have little effect upon its targets, who are either psychopathic or delusional, depending on whether they're the ones who make up the bullshit or the ones who consume it.

When you denounce the bad act instead of the person, it cultivates a more ethical mode of thinking in everybody. Attacks on the person reinforce the false idea that badness comes from bad people, instead of bad ideas. I think its far more powerful to endorse the idea that people can change, that sometimes people have good ideas and sometimes they have bad ideas, and we denounce the latter and celebrate the former.

I generally agree. It interesting that I was called a communist just because I had a turn off Fox sticker on my care. It was even worse when I admitted to liking Matthews, Maddow and Olberman.

When you hear all the words flying about Obama I do not know how you respond. And believe me it will get so much worse once they have their ticket.

calling liars liars is great-
calling hypocrites the same is great-
I don't think that calling people "vermin" or cockroaches helps much. Dehumanizing these assholes does not help-I think.

He said that once you brought name calling into a conversation your credibility went out out of it.

While I don't see this view as some sort of absolute truth, name calling does inevitably serve as a distraction as well as degrade the level of discussion.

Just sayin'. I may do so when I'm being flippant about something but I rarely, if ever, do so when I want to be taken seriously/trying to make an important point.

I tend to think name calling is juvenile and give less weight to whatever the person is saying once they've reached the name calling stage.

I certainly agree. Everyone has made very valid points about "name calling". It is hardly a desirable strategy to use against the opposition. Unfortunately we are going to see the other side escalate far beyond what they have already done. Points well taken.

It's always better to express yourself using more exacting terminology, unless you just want to start a pissing contest.

But also understand that when using such language, you are pretty much guaranteeing not to sway anybody. If you want to have fun with people who already agree with you, then go for it. But if you want to change minds, which is how real progress is made, it's best to leave the insults at the door.
