from huffpost:
Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Tuesday that "no one is sleeping on the streets" in New York City, NY1 reports.
The comment-- in response to a New York Daily News article that said city shelters were turning away families during frigid winter temperatures-- was quickly condemned by homeless advocates who have long decried Bloomberg's handling of the city's homeless.
It also came as a shock to everyday New Yorkers who, looking out their window or on their way to work, can see homeless people sleeping on the streets.
"It's a remark that just seems so out of touch with the everyday reality that New Yorkers see," said Patrick Markee of the Coalition for the Homeless. ...........(more)

(413 posts)Magic Mike can do no wrong.
But seriously, how can he proclaim that with a straight face?
This is a guy who loves the stop and frisk without probable cause, turned the NYPD on the occupy protesters with naked brutal force, tells NY'ers what size soft drink they can't have.
I have no idea why people here like this 1%.

(21,860 posts)I remember getting on the 1 train this past Sunday morning and seeing two homeless men, in different cars, asleep. It was bitter cold and they apparently sought refuge from the cold in a train. Keep in mind that this train runs elevated in upper Manhattan and the Bronx, where cold blasts come in whenever the doors open. It may not be sleeping on the street but it is not much better. It certainly indicates that there are not enough homeless shelters.

(18,808 posts)of that ultra-liberal Democratic defender-of-democracy-since-birth hero of the masses who will destroy the nra by buying one election at a time. Any failings in His city are not His fault since as mayor He actually has no control over His army/police nor the organizations to support the homeless. He will get to that once large drinks are banished from His realm, packaging meets His approval, all dark skinned folk have been thoroughly stopped and frisked and break any laws He must for your own good.
