the Tweet is so bad i'm not going to link to it. Reaction on Twitter is approximately a million percent negative.
edit with a little more info: they crudely insulted the young actress from "Beasts of the Southern Wild." Don't ask me why, maybe they got hacked.

That tweet is all wrong. I don't know how people would react if they tweeted that about an adult woman, but you can't say that about a 9 year old. I have a feeling that the person that did this went off the script.

(12,041 posts)I suspect we will see many advertisers pulling ads from The Onion tomorrow and many businesses refusing to stock the paper in their stores. I bet The Onion is going to lose a lot of money because of this.

Wow. I'd like to know the fallout from this.

Someone should wake the boss up, because tomorrow is going to be awful.
By the way, the host for the Oscars was himself a moron who went out of his way to be rude and obnoxious. Where the heck did they get him, and why? Both DH and I found him to be tasteless and unfunny.

(694 posts)There was a line in the lyric about Helen Hunt, then the little girl's name, and a line which would rhyme with Hunt, but which McFarlane changed to "adorable." Not funny in any case, but I'm sure that's the reference.

(3,266 posts)uncool in the extreme. Now the Onion copies it? WTF??? It was just as juvenile and crass as the OPENING number, "We Saw Your Boobies". Really strange.

(11,464 posts)Smith had wanted his daughter Willow Smith for the role, but it took too long and she is too old now.
Q is perfect for the role.
And the Oscars were awful this year.
Ever since the year Harvey purchased the Oscars for Shakespeare in love and Gwyn, they are getting worse and worse.
Bring back Johnny Carson. He never needed to resort to this to be funny the entire show through.

(22,920 posts)I'm female and almost 50, and that was always THE WORST word anyone could ever say. I swear like a sailor, but that's one word I have never used.
However, I see the younger generation using it much more casually and frequently.
Much to my surprise, I've also discovered that some friends I know, who are my age (men and women), from the Wisconsin/Minnesota area also use it fairly casually and frequently.
Regardless, this tweet is way out of bounds, but I do wonder about the use of the word itself now and if it's viewed by others as being as offensive as I've always viewed it.
WinkyDink
(51,311 posts)chosen it.
OneGrassRoot
(22,920 posts)Yes, it's obviously offensive, always has been and still is, but it was always taboo and doesn't seem to be so any longer.
That's what I should have said.
