The challenge of expectations ruined Seth Macfarlane tonight.

You can not expect someone who makes a living by being over the top to go out in front of the televised world and work with “how far can I go”, dilemma. He practically was apologizing before every attempted gag or joke....It was also way too long and last number was almost unbearable. The whole show needs to be shortened by 30 minutes...

would just go out and do their thing and just do their act and occasionally poke fun at the industry. The fact is that in todays world of instant media gratification, people got bored and the producers pushed for more and more overt the top stuff... It just doesn’t work....
Need to return to the old format....which was tolerable.

reviews when he hosted. i was wondering if that made some people feel they have to things they might not usually do.

from the shows i remember watch with Billy Crystal most of his jokes were usually focused on the movies themselves. he was really good at providing the entertainment around the films being nominated so the focus was still on the nominees and who would win.

he also seemed more natural and comfortable in terms of just keeping control of the whole thing and moving the show forward.

I think Seth was a poor choice right from the get go..My friend was hired and it was a job for him and I’m glad for that. But as I mentioned in my original post....

It was not a good fit. Richard Pryor and George Carlin would not have been good Oscar hosts either.

It moved, the speeches weren't too long, the numbers were fun--it was great to see Shirley Bassey and Barbra Streisand, and I hope McFarlane does it again next year. He was great!

He bookended the show by starting with a song about actresses' boobies, and ended it with a song in which he hinted at calling a 9 yr old girl a c**t.

And everything in between wavered between dreadful and awkward.

How about some insight the next time. Perhaps questioning the producer’s choice of Seth in the first place.

I tried to half ass watch, but I couldn't because I don't give a fuck who wins or loses.

They have too many award shows.

And I still like Family Guy, American Dad, and Ted.
