it was immature, and very insensitive, I don't know why I wrote it, and I am very sorry.

(25,348 posts)...take it out on something else,
I've seen posts, over the years that even the sweetest people had written that have caused me to think:
"Whoa...XXXXXX wrote THAT ??"
Even myself

(9,601 posts)I am quite impressed though when people show humility and are willing to say "sorry I fucked up."
No one can improve themselves without being open to the arguments of others and concluding that oneself can be wrong sometimes.
This is what separates the progressive from the teabagger.

(63,912 posts)Turner is such a strong supporter of Planned Parenthood and an active spokesperson for it.
I saw her in "High" at the Hartford Stage a couple of years ago. Very strong performance and physically exhausting. I admire her for her artistry.

(1,999 posts)Speaking as an overweight 58-year-old woman, I have to admit my feelings were hurt. Stupid, I know.
Getting old sucks. I feel bad that you were lambasted on the thread, but I have to say that the outpouring of responses saying that there is more to a person than their looks made me feel a bit better about myself so I guess I should be thanking you.
You just never know how much your words affect other people.

(14,881 posts)When I was 16, my father apologized to me -- the only time he ever apologized for anything -- because it was his fault that I was "So ugly, nobody is ever going to want to marry you. You got your ugly face from me." It was a devastating kick in the gut to a 16 year old who had been mocked and ostracized all through my school years.
I have been throughout my life a target of sexism, looksism, and now, at 59, ageism.
It is more than just hurtful to feelings. We pay throughout our lives with fewer life opportunities and lower pay.

(13,776 posts)I literally gasped out loud when I read what your father said. I can only guess at what kind of inferiority complex he might have had about his own looks, to say such a thing, but it is still heartbreaking that he said that to you. Whether our feelings about our appearance are accurate or not, what affects us is our own feelings about how we look, so even if you were Charlize Theron or Adele, those words would be wounding.
There's a reason that obituaries almost never mention people's looks. But of course, I won't deny that during life, looks do affect how our lives unfold. It's so unfair because appearance is just the luck of the draw, whereas becoming a good, kind, decent person as you have done takes some effort.
I'm sorry for the pain people have caused you. It was so wrong of them.

(3,231 posts)It's hell some days and I know I look like hell. I dread summer visits home because of my weight gain and puffiness and inability to keep up with all my friends and family who are still able to be so active. I could only imagine if I was a celebrity and had to endure photos (something else I dread is being in pictures, my appearance is so different).
thanks for apologizing, Ms. Turner has been one I have looked up to during my disease.
I'm on so much steroids, methotrexate, ....
