General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI got hired today!
After a very long 4 years of struggling with no offers for permanent employment, existing on side work, and generally feeling very down on myself, the tide has finally turned. Full time employment, with benefits and decent (not great, but not bad) wages.
To say I am pumped, is minimizing it. Thanks to all of the DUers that have given support over the long dry stretch.
Edited to add:
I am overwhelmed by so many wonderful responses from all of you fine folks. The out-pouring has left me kind of emotional. I will make an effort to respond to as many of you as I can, but it may take me a while, so please have patience.

(14,524 posts)I had almost completely lost hope. Until someone has experienced it firsthand, it's difficult to understand just how devastating it is. Thank you so much for your kind words, Peggy.
Glad you were able to find a job.

(27,985 posts)I'm pleased that you found a job but the powers that be, win, if you feel bad about not having a job when it's them, not you, who screw you on a regular basis.
Congratulations!

(14,524 posts)I wish I could say that I didn't let it get me down, but I would be lying if I did. I came to question what it was that was "wrong" with me, even tho I knew (in my head) it was the economy being in the crapper that was the real problem. It just wears on you.

(27,985 posts)It's hard not to take it personal but until the koch brothers have been strung up by their unmentionables, it is their fault and not yours that a person cannot achieve gainful employment.

(35,441 posts)Did the housing collapse contribute to your prolonged job search?
99Forever
(14,524 posts)The housing bubble burst and it took out many construction related businesses and the jobs that went with them. It's just finally starting to recover, slowly, but it is getting better.

(24,461 posts)Sometimes, the "half hour" could be five months. Sometimes four years. I've been there in 2001 (you know, during the decade's FIRST recession). I was glad it happened during summer, but damn I felt worthless and humiliated.
I wish you lots of luck on your new position. May it be fruitful and bring you happiness.
