Assailant shoots into SF home with AK-47

(02-25) 10:04 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- A Sacramento man was arrested late Sunday after he shot up a man's Western Addition home with an automatic rifle, San Francisco police said.

Kareem Benton, 42, got into an argument with another man on the 1000 block of McAllister Street and followed the man to his home nearby, said Officer Albie Esparza, a police spokesman.

Benton then pulled out a fully automatic AK-47 and "sprayed" the man's home with bullets, Esparza said. The victim, who was in his home, was shot in the leg and is expected to survive.

Benton fled in a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but was arrested later on the 200 block of Cashmere Street in the Bayview, Esparza said.

Esparza said he did not know exactly what charges Benton could face, but noted that it is illegal to possess a fully automatic AK-47.

"Criminals don't adhere to any laws," Esparza said. "That's why they are criminals."

He also was a criminal earlier when he acquired the rifle, and again when he loaded it within city limits.

You need a Federal license to posess a full-auto, and you can't get one with a felony on your record. How much you wanna bet this fool has a record? - " Good Judgement" like this leaves a trail.

You could have a full auto AK with a class III license. He lacked it. There are federal charges for this as well.

And this was a dumb criminal. The ones who get caught are usually dumb.

(For the record I suspect there are far more fully auto toys than we are willing to admit)
