Ikea official: I'd still eat our Swedish meatballs
While the discovery of horsemeat in Ikea's Swedish meatballs may put consumers off the iconic staple of everyman Swedish cuisine, it's unlikely to do any long term damage to Ikea's or Sweden's brand.
Ikea, most famous for its flatpack furniture, was caught flatfooted when it was dragged into Europe's ongoing horsemeat scandal on Monday.
"It came as a surprise to us," Ikea spokeswoman Anna Pilkrona-Godden told The Local following reports that food inspectors had found traces of horsemeat in frozen meatballs destined for sale in an Ikea store in the Czech Republic.
"We are treating the matter with the utmost seriousness. The quality of all our products is a top priority."
Shortly after news emerged that Ikea-brand meatballs had been shown to contain horsemeat, the Swedish furniture giant halted meatball sales across Sweden and in 14 other countries across Europe.

When asked whether she would eat Ikea's Swedish meatballs, Pilkrona-Godden answered in the affirmative.
"Yes, I think I would. I feel totally confident about them," she said.

(797 posts)My daughter picked up a bag of em a few weeks ago, i found them to be over processed resulting in a strange bubble gum like texture way too dense for a meatball, its as though they pureed the meat then made the meatball. Yuk

(9,213 posts)it's horse. Again, I don't see what the horse vs cow vs pig meat deal is. They're all animals. We eat animals
The Straight Story
(48,121 posts)Plus it is false labeling. Like Putting ham in something and then selling it to muslims - what would be the big deal since they eat other food right?
cbdo2007
(9,213 posts)and I realize the "false labeling" thing.....but it's like with hot dogs. Occasionally these stories will come out that like hotdogs are 2% pig poop or chicken beaks or something, so I just assume most things aren't very healthy and have gross stuff in them.

(146,317 posts)I'd still eat those meatballs, but I haven't been in an Ikea for several years. I don't need any "you assemble" furniture right now, and I haven't broken any of the set of 12 place settings of dishes I bought there in 2004. I hate shopping.

(4,810 posts)for shoppers. The meatballs are the 'flagship' meal and are very, very good. They also have a food hall where you can buy frozen ones to take home.
