Just so this doesn't get lost in the long rumor mongering thread. So these rumors about his discharge have been around for a couple of decades, and they're just as dumb and creepy as the right wing rumor mongering. Maybe worse, because we really are smarter and better than the other side

WASHINGTON — With his brief Army service once again a campaign issue, Sen. Mitch McConnell on Wednesday allowed the Herald-Leader to take notes from two pages of his service records — his honorable discharge certificate and his discharge form, which declared him medically unfit.

McConnell’s office in Washington provided access to those pages but said it would not allow copies to be made.
On Tuesday, state Rep. Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, campaigning with McConnell’s Democratic challenger Bruce Lunsford, called on McConnell to publicly share his Army records.

“Elections should be about informed choices. He’s obviously not proud of his record, Sen. McConnell isn’t, or he would have shown it by now,” Stumbo told a crowd in Paris.

Questions about McConnell’s military service have popped up toward the end
of each of his last three campaigns. McConnell has previously allowed reporters to view some of his military records, but he has never allowed anyone to copy
the documents.

Now unless you think the Herald-Leader is lying to cover for Turtle boy this is just stupid shit along the lines of why doesn't President Obama release his college transcripts and records to prove he wasn't a foreign student- OK, not quite as stupid, but close.

Now we have DUers running around and insisting that Mitch was discharged following a court martial for sodomy.

Did McConnell want out because he didn't want to go to Vietnam? He got some help getting out from Senator Cooper, so yeah, that's certainly possible.

And btw, the post from kos that's being cited here, is disgustingly homophobic. The author asks "Do you think that Mitch McConnell is a closet queen?

7. College--something people pay for themselves, often at PRIVATE institutions like

Occidental, Columbia and Harvard (where Obama went) is not the same as being drafted into the military and serving the government of the USA for days, weeks or months.

One is a private endeavor undertaken voluntarily by a student, the other is under the imprimatur of the US government, a contract with the government is signed, and it IS a matter of PUBLIC record.

It's not stupid shit. If this guy got favoritism--for ANY reason--it's an issue.
