Why "Argo" winning matters.

The mythology of the Right is that a tough talking b-movie actor caused Iran to release the hostages.

Keep in mind that Republicans actually BELIEVE their own mythology and since then, every time the subject of the Middle East comes up they all talk tough because they believe it worked before. This has devolved into a game of who can talk the toughest and many Democrats have joined in. "Hey! Listen to me! I can talk tough just like a Republican!"

The media has perpetuated the myth that Carter was "weak" and Reagan was "strong" and that's why Iran released the hostages. They have ignored the October Surprise and Iran Contra. It's like those never happened.

"Argo" will address some fundamental believes amongst the Villagers.

But never fear, Tweety will still say, "I don't get it."

Then people might actually start getting a hint about the real history of the region.

3. I wouldn't use the movie Argo for historical accuracy.

Unless you want to give most of the credit to the Canadians.

10. Love JC, but ACTUAL history is that Canadians were responsible for getting Americans out, not CIA.

And, what happened with the six was completely unrelated to the hostages being released.

12. Here's the actual quote from Jimmy Carter on the historical accuracy of ARGO.

In a CNN interview, President Carter addressed the controversy by stating: "90% of the contributions to the ideas and the consummation of the plan was Canadian. And the movie gives almost full credit to the American CIA. And with that exception, the movie is very good. But Ben Affleck's character in the film was... only in Tehran a day and a half. And the main hero, in my opinion, was Ken Taylor, who was the Canadian ambassador who orchestrated the entire process."
