Before we go off on trying to drag up why McConnell left the military which is speculative and not much relevant to him these days...the avenue for research might be more his current wife and the connections there between how they both have profited and manipulated the system. The divorce from the woman who helped put him through law school and with whom he had three daughters might yield more information about his character and how he moved on to profit from the well-connected Elaine Chao and her family.
I found some interesting things that sure seem more relevant than the old military speculation:

Mr. and Mrs. Washington Insider: Mitch McConnell and His Wife
By: Dennis S
The guy is a United States Senator. Hes been fouling up the chambers air for 27 years. Hes married to Elaine Chao, a reasonably bright and attractive Taiwanese immigrant (most likely Han Chinese) with a heavyweight CV that includes an 8-year stint as U.S. Secretary of Labor where she spent considerable time leaning on unions. She was also the Director of the Peace Corps and CEO of United Way. She earlier had been a VP of two huge banks. Before her labor gig, she was with the Heritage Foundation; she returned to Heritage in January 2009.
One might ask what a gal like her sees in Mr. Crepey. It seems the attraction is in their mutual sleaze compatibility.
Heritage opened an office in Hong Kong in 1996 and hired Chao to supposedly serve as Heritages academic liaison, passing on valuable cultural and scholarly matter for a better understanding of China and the region. In truth, Chaos apparent lone responsibility was to grease the skids for U.S. manufacturers to cut deals to bring American jobs to non-union cheap labor plants in China. WorldNetDaily reported that she was also a director of an Alabama-based Insurance Company that partnered with the Chinese government. Im sure she received a handsome stipend for her connections with a U.S. Senator her husband. And this union-hating, American job exporter becomes U.S. Labor Secretary?
Any thoughtful Republican would consider most of the above to be a conflict of interest, not to mention her board membership of the National Association of Security Dealers. As Church Lady would say Isnt that special. For Republicans, its just another day at the office. Just like Clarence and his Tea Party wife, Virginia (Ginni).
The Senator married this accomplished lady after getting rid of the woman who helped him through law school. Dont they all?
If you havent guessed by now, the object of my disaffection is Kentuckys Mitch McConnell. Hes my human equivalent of fingernails on a blackboard. While the media concentrates on the madman menagerie that is the U.S. House of Representatives, almost no attention is focused on the equally whacked out Republicans in the senate; every bit as Tea Party-possessed and Obama-hating as their house-bound colleagues.

Elaine Chao, Distinguished Fellow
Elaine L. Chao is a Distinguished Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, where she works on jobs, employment, trade, workforce and competitiveness issues.
An immigrant to this country, she arrived at the age of 8 speaking no English. In 2001, Chao became the nations 24th secretary of labor and the first American woman of Asian descent to be appointed to a president's Cabinet in the countrys history. The longest-serving secretary of labor since World War II, she is also the only member of President Bushs Cabinet to serve all eight years of his administration.
Chao's distinguished career spans the public, private and non-profit sectors. During her tenure as labor secretary, the department set new records in worker health and safety; focused on increasing the competitiveness of Americas workforce in a globalized economy and enforced union financial disclosure reporting requirements for the benefit of rank-and-file workers.
Prior to leading the Department of Labor, Chao was president and CEO of United Way of America, director of the Peace Corps, deputy secretary of the Department of Transportation and chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission. She also worked as vice president at Bank of America in San Francisco and at Citicorp in New York City.
Chao received her MBA from the Harvard Business School and a degree in economics from Mount Holyoke College. Honored with innumerable awards for her contributions to public and community service, Chao is also the recipient of 34 honorary doctorate degrees.
She is married to the Republican leader of the U.S. Senate, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, and they reside in Jefferson County, Ky. Her website is www.ElaineLchao.com.

(146,317 posts)McConnell is a consumate asshole all on his own account. If we cannot defeat him on those grouns, we should move on to other races. He is a waste of time. I do not waste my time.

(64,933 posts)a same sex relationship is immaterial at this point, given that we have now legalized same-sex marriage (at least here in Maryland!)
Now if there was something to the effect of sexual abuse, then I might think differently, but going after him for a same sex relationship is bullshit.
I am not sure what this other allegation is.

(84,711 posts)for posting that McConnell might have had a Gay Alliance in the Military that got him Booted out in late 60's and went on a tear around DU cautioning that calling out McConnell for Gay Alliance was NOT THE WAY TO GO...Now...you don't think that calling out his Alliances with a Prominent Chinese Family who recently donated Millions to Harvard for their "Daughters who Attended" deserves attention into how Mitch and Elaine have GAIMED THE DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM?
You gotta be kidding here....

(75,480 posts)I say dredge up everything you can on them and throw it at them until something sticks. They are ruining the country and the sooner we rid ourselves of them by exposing them for the degenerates, crooks and/or liars that they may be the better. Turning the other cheek may be fine in social circles but not when we are dealing with the power hungry and greedy.

(146,317 posts)If not, find something else to do. Do not waste your time.

MineralMan
(146,317 posts)for jebus sake. They would elect Torquemada there. You have zero chance of getting him unelected there. Do you not have elections in your own state? Are you happy with everyone in office there? Work toward what can be done. Kentucky is a lost cause. Elect Democratic Senators where that is possible. Use your haed, not your heart and do some good.
Cleita
(75,480 posts)I want them to get another Senate Minority leader. Or have you not noticed that next to Harry Reid, he's the second most powerful person in the Senate? I have two Democratic Senators. I have done my job. Now it's time to start making the Republicans act like Americans.

MineralMan
(146,317 posts)you are just wasting your time. Seriously.
Cleita
(75,480 posts)so I see no reason why we can't influence votes in their state. Also, since McConnell is acting for the nation and not just his state, the rest of us have every reason to want him gone.

Outside influences are rife in the politics of my State and my former State of California was flooded with out of State Prop 8 funding. To pretend everyone sticks to their own State only is one hell of a stretch.
'Leave Mitch alone' is a funky subject matter to take up with such passion.

(64,933 posts)Get out there in Kentucky and spread the word for the Democratic Party's candidate. Organize.
Fighting them with a Brietbart/Drudge/O'Keefe stategy only reduces us to their level.
KoKo
(84,711 posts)for awhile now, though. What is it that you get off chiding those of us who've voted and done what our Dem Party has asked of us.
I didn't say you did not vote (it was someone else who said you are not in Kentucky). Does the Democratic Party want us to pull Ken Starr like slanders out to win? Not that I have heard of.
KoKo
(84,711 posts)How far does this go with you to call out long time DU'ers as supporters of KEN STARR?
Do you actually read your posts?
madinmaryland
(64,933 posts)of Ken Starr. That in no way means you are supporters of Ken Starr, assuming you actually read my post. Tactics and support are two completely different things that I think both of you full well understand.
You all really want to go after rumours (unsubstantiated, of course) about Mitch McConnell?? I will call bullshit on type of "Southern Strategy" every single fucking time.
