House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) on Monday accused President Obama of using the armed forces as "campaign props" in discussions to replace automatic budget cuts known as the sequester.
"The president proposed this sequester, yet he's far more interested in holding campaign rallies than in urging his Senate Democrats to pass a plan," Boehner said during a press conference on Capitol Hill.
He continued: "Listen, the president says we have to have another tax increase to avoid the sequestration. Well, Mr. President, you got your tax increase. It's time to cut spending in Washington. Instead of using or military men and women as campaign props, if the president was serious, he would sit down with Harry Reid and address our problems."
Flanked by more than a dozen first responders in uniform on Tuesday, Obama offered dire warnings about the consequences of the sequester, set to take effect March 1.

Just to make this comment a little more relavent, those men and women look pretty damned proud to be standing behind our President. Gotta say, it makes me feel proud to see them there. A lot more proud than when I have to endure your Grinchy orange face sneering behind him.

(53,339 posts)As rescue efforts continue in the rubble of the World Trade Center, President Bush puts his arms around firefighter Bob Beck while standing in front of the World Trade Center debris during a tour of the devastation, Friday September 14, 2001. Bush is standing on a burned fire truck. Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said 4,763 people have been reported missing in the devastation of the World Trade Center. (Doug Mills/The Associated Press)
He went to Ground Zero, and was photographed at the site on the wreckage with a fireman. One thing thats obvious, but its worth bringing out there, is that there are very few casual photographs of the president of the United States. The whole thing is managed. With the exception of the guy hurling the shoe at him, these are all photo opportunities that are organized by the White House Press Department and set up for the members of the traveling pool or media group that accompanies him everywhere. So you have to look at them within that framework, that its being orchestrated to send a message. And, in this case, the message is that the Commander in Chief is getting his feet dirty at the site of the attacks, and is showing that he cares, that hes in control, that hes a leader.
