About the President, First Lady, and the Arts...

I simply do not understand the brouhaha over the First Lady presenting an award at a program recognizing the efforts of those in the performing arts. It is ridiculously shortsighted to make this an issue. At a time, when in our schools the arts are being dropped in the interest of budgeting, any highlighting of the arts should be welcomed by us. Her presence calls attention to the importance of arts to a civil society and it doesn't matter whether the art is directed toward political commentary or not. Any of those films presented to the Academy for consideration and the actors and technicians who worked as part of the individual artistic communities that created them are part of our national fund of talent. Michelle Obama's nod to the performing arts as embodied in the cinema should be appreciated for what it is--a recognition of the contributions of those in the fine arts community of this nation.

It wasn't just the Repukes who took offense to her appearance. Some DU'ers decided it was a case of the 'State' interfering with the "Arts."

I agree that her appearance was a promotion for the arts and not an issue at all.

if I were sitting there enjoying the awards show and Ann Romney came on. It would ruin it for me. I would still be sick if the election had gone differently.

The problem is that they lost and they are sore losers. Why can't we all just ignore the constant whining from the losing side?

All this nit picking is coming from people who wanted Ann Romney as our first lady. Why do we listen to them? They lost. We won.

I get to love seeing First Lady Michelle Obama whenever she shows up. I love her!!!

Whew! Cuz I was reading DU before, and there was thus post with, like, 40 one line paragraphs, and it was all like, blah blah Imperial Presidency, blah blah, you're a slave and a hypocrite because Oscars Michelle Obama blah blah, and I was really scared and everything even though I just skimmed that post like everybody else. Y'know?
