Update: Indiana Senate approves abortion bill

http://www.wthr.com/story/21388156/indiana-senate-approves-tougher-abortion-pill-rules

<<Indiana clinics that provide only abortion drugs would face tougher requirements and doctors would have to perform ultrasound examinations on women seeking those drugs under a bill approved by the state Senate.

Senators voted 33-16 on Tuesday in favor of the proposal that opponents have assailed as an attempt to complicate and invade a woman's personal health decisions.

Bill sponsor Sen. Travis Holdman of Markle says the state should regulate clinics distributing abortion-inducing drugs to ensure the safety of women taking them.

The bill exempts physician offices from any extra regulations even if those doctors sometimes prescribe abortion pills. Planned Parenthood of Indiana says the additional requirements might force it to stop providing abortion drugs at its Lafayette clinic.
The bill now goes to the House.>>

I watched the debate on this bill this afternoon. Holdman had the gall to say that "despite what the media says" the bill does not call for transvaginal ultrasounds. But that is the only kind of ultrasound that will be effective at the same stage of pregnancy as the morning after pill, which is what the GOP says they want to make "safe" for women.

Major, major props to Sen. Jean Breaux -- in her remarks she set Holdman straight on the above, and said that if the Indiana GOP really gave a damn about women and their babies, they would be looking to change regulations concerning food, the environment, health care, better working conditions, etc., rather than making it punitive and difficult to get a legal medical procedure. Despite her thougtful remarks, the vote was quick and it wasn't close.

Now it's almost a sure thing that this will sail through the House.

of a woman, but 2. What makes this all the more loathsome and insulting is that they are LYING and trying to pass off this misogynistic piece of shit bill as wanting to make the medication "safer" for women. They couldn't care less about "safety." They are all about humiliation, shame, and punishment with the maximum amount of discomfort available to them. I have had a transvaginal ultrasound not related to pregnancy (I have never conceived), and I can tell you it is PAINFUL. I can also tell you that it is NOTHING like having sex, as that idiot bagger woman politician tried to argue when she said that "something was inserted" when she conceived, so women shouldn't have a problem with having a cold, plastic instrument inserted into them while their feet are locked in stirrups and being probed by a stranger. She must be a barrel of laughs in bed.

There are no words to describe the outrage I feel towards these despicable, hateful Republicans.

And the memories of both still make me sick to my stomach. This is torture, just like waterboarding, IMO. It causes physical and emotional distress, with its only purpose being to punish and humiliate.

Sadly, I'm not the least surprised at this vote. Just a preview of coming attractions.
