GOPers are going ballistic over the recent release of immigrant detainees by the Feds

The Department of Homeland Security has released hundreds of immigrants from detention in preparation from the looming budget cuts known as the "sequester". Detaining these immigrants is extremely costly as you can imagine. Soon thousands will likely be released.

GOPers in Congress and governors like Jan Brewer are apoplectic:

Ariz. gov 'appalled' by illegal immigrant release

PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says she's appalled to hear that the Department of Homeland Security has begun releasing hundreds of illegal immigrants from custody.

It's the first of potentially thousands of immigrants to soon be freed before mandatory federal budget cuts go into effect.

The Obama administration has been issuing dire warnings about the impact of the sequestration.

Hey GOPers, you wanted government budget cuts and now you got 'em. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. Next up will be military cuts. I'm sure you'll squeal even more about those cuts. Snip snip snip.

You see, the government does some things you actually like. Keep that in mind next time you bash the government and government workers.

Assholes.

And the deportation proceedings have not ended for any of them.

We were holding these people in an archipelago of facilities ranging from federal, to private detention, to county jail spaces. They are no threat to anybody. They are being released to known addresses - probably where they should have stayed while their deportation proceedings ran through the system anyway.

This is a reasonable cost cutting measure given the sequester, and not just a thumb in the eye of the GOP. However, if they are going to take it as a thumb in the eye, by all means the Obama Administration should push harder. I say reduce the population of undocumented people in the detention centers to near zero, holding only the very dangerous. If we can reduce beds from 34,000 to, say, 800 or so, all the better.

Oh, and fuck you, GOP House.

More to this story?
Doing this ahead of the sequester REALLY looks political, even if it isn't.
