(7,549 posts)whether it might actually wake some people up to the good role government plays in their own lives? You know that saying, "nobody knows notices what I do around here, until I don't do it."
But on the other hand, I am beginning to think that a comet falling out of the sky and crashing on their heads wouldn't be enough to wake some of these people out of their self imposed stupid stupor.

(402 posts)You will find that someone is always going to either be in charge, or battle it out to be in charge. you have three choices you can have a government hopefully a democracy where you will have a say, Large business who plunder as much as they can with out regulation and as quickly as they can because this power is always short lived for the third power and that is crime lords and bandits that run business off or capture the business and run things them self.
Its madness to think small, week government is a good thing you only have to look around the world to see where that leads. The smaller the government the stronger the crime lords.

(6,342 posts)Especially since the Vietnam war and then Nixon, people have really taken a VERY cynical approach concerning the government. People don't trust it. People don't trust our politicians. People think the government is corrupt and politicians are only looking out for themselves and the corporations that pay for their campaigns. The entire nation is built upon a concept that government is nothing more than a necessary evil.
Ultimately people want the government to help them. What they dont want is the government to control them. Working to get us healthcare coverage is helping us. Dictating how many ounces of soda we can buy is controlling us. There is a big difference there.
