A majority of Americans believe that Republicans are "out of touch" with the mainstream of the country and "too extreme," according to a new Pew Research Center poll released Tuesday.

The poll found that 62 percent of all Americans — including 36 percent of Republicans — think the party is out of touch. That's 16 points higher than the percentage of people who thought the same about Democrats.

Respondents also blasted the GOP as "too extreme." A majority, or 52 percent, of those polled said that phrase describes the Republican Party, 13 points higher than the Democratic Party.

The GOP image is at its lowest point in nearly two decades:

This constant over-reach in pushing their ridiculous agenda is finally starting to bite them in their proverbial asses. And I for one, couldn't be happier. Even the ignorant are starting to wake up.

They're committed to an insane course of action with all the momentum of a gas giant. And every time any person in the GOP tries to feign just the slightest amount of sense, Rush Limbaugh issues a fatwa on them and the cover the hapless in half a light year of froth.

These guys really aren't that stupid. they know every utterance of legitimate rape turns another percentage of people against them, but they just double down. More tax breaks for the top! Then someone says they're hurting the country - Kill the poor!

Mmmmmm, the crazy is strong with this one.

I'm in late middle age / early old age. I was thinking today, that I sure hope I live long enough to see the great republican die-off and know that they're extinct. At that point, I can go in peace. And what a life-story it will make.

The Tea Party has snookered the GOP. They rule. Mitch Mc will be primaried along with other "moderate" pubs and the Teapublicans will win (provided they dont get Akind or Mourdocked.

Hell, Chris Christie could start his own party. Bloomberg might join up. Their moderate slate could siphon off votes so that the Tea Party will go nowhere. Can you say 25% (if that). Cry your eyes out Fox and Michele Malkin!

One suspects that the "out of touch" responses are heavily weighted toward the West Coast, Mid-Atlantic, New England and Upper Midwest. Which is really a sign of increasing regional polarisation that's worse than anything since 1860 or so.
