http://rt.com/usa/un-crime-cia-bush-804/A United Nations investigator has demanded that the US publish classified documents regarding the CIAs human rights violations under former President George W. Bush, with hopes that the documents will lead to the prosecution of public officials.
Documents about the CIAs program of rendition and secret detention of suspected terrorists have remained classified, even though President Obamas administration has publicly condemned the use of these enhanced interrogation techniques. The US has not prosecuted any of its agents for human rights violations.
UN investigator Ben Emmerson, the UN special rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights while countering terrorism, said that the classified documents protect the names of individuals who are responsible for serious human rights violations.
Despite this clear repudiation of the unlawful actions carried out by the Bush-era CIA, many of the facts remain classified, and no public official has so far been brought to justice in the United States, Emmerson said in a report to the UN Human Rights Council, according to Reuters.

(2,730 posts)you have the most powerful military in the World. The only people have oversight over the U.S. is us. And we are divided. That is why the Republican Party is dangerous. Afterall, it was their President once claimed a Nuclear War is winnable.

(62,325 posts)shut up, will be discredited in some way if the request gains any traction, or forced to spend more time with his family. But it shows that the Bush crimes have not been swept under the rug even if people are too afraid right now to do anything about them.
There are far too many victims all over the world, to allow them to be hidden forever so one day it won't just be a few voices speaking out like this, there will be a lot more and the movement will gain momentum. Injustice sometimes takes a while before it can be dealt with. With the way things move so fast today, it is likely that Bush millions of victims may actually see it happen in their lifetimes. Maybe even his.
See South America. It took 50 years, but the search for justice has finally begun and some of the perpetrators are still alive. They too thought they got away with it. Not everyone in the world believes we should 'move forward' from the atrocities perpetrated by the Bush war criminals against so many, many innocent people. Thankfully.
If this was 2006, this thread would be at the top of the rec list. Just an observation.
