What they DO have however, is just as much right not to vote for a Democratic candidate because that candidate doesnt support their agenda as the NeoDems did not to vote for Mitt Romney. They dont betray any one or any political party by not voting for a person or a party that doesnt support them any more than the rest of us do by not voting Republican.
And theres this: Im not hearing anyone from the professional left proposing anything that would take food off my table, deprive me of the meds I take for life threatening conditions or remove the roof from over my head the ONLY three things that really matter to someone like me. Im sure as hell however, hearing people claiming to be part of TODAYS left who are perfectly willing to compromise any and all of those things, quite often for no other reason than the administration has expressed a willingness to do so.

Liberals have one function and one function only as far as todays Democratic party is concerned and thats to take the blame when one of their guys loses because you didnt feel like voting for someone who didnt represent your beliefs just to keep the other side from winning. Keep letting them shove you into that shoe box and putting rocks on the lid and it means the end of any concept of loyal opposition and therefore democracy in this country.

(39,405 posts)so voters don't see the difference their vote makes, and stay home at elections.
Changes for ordinary people are made with an exacto knife, changes for the rich are made with a back hoe.
Republicans just dispense with even the exacto knife, and convince their base that the back hoe is working for them (even as it tears down their house with their kids in it).

(20,317 posts)When corporate Democrats lose an election, it's the fault of liberals who didn't vote for them-- and proof that the left should be ignored and marginalized in the future.
When corporate Democrats win an election, it's a vindication of their center/right approach to politics-- and proof that the left should be ignored and marginalized in the future.
We are the whipping boy for the Corporate Democrats. Period.

(12,448 posts)He only got 43% of the vote in his 370 electoral win. He also had the House (270-164-1) and the Senate (55-45). He sacrificed the entire progressive agenda, including health care, in exchange for the DLC's merger-mania and a toothless, pointless gun ban.
