Are the Koch Brothers Trying to Buy the Los Angeles Times?

http://blogs.laweekly.com/informer/2013/03/will_koch_brothers_buy_la_times.php

The latest rumor about the next owner of the L.A. Times, which is for sale, is a doozy. A bombshell. It's a doozy wrapped in a bombshell exploding inside a Drudge siren.

Multiple sources tell L.A. Weekly that Charles and David Koch -- the infamous right-wing billionaire brothers -- are considering an offer on either the Tribune Co. newspaper group, which includes the L.A. Times, the Chicago Tribune and the Baltimore Sun or the entire Tribune Co., which includes more than 20 stations like WGN and KTLA Channel 5.

Now, these are unverified rumors that should be taken with a grain of salt if not a whole dollop. The Tribune Co. won't comment on any specific offers they've received, although a source there says, "We've gotten a ton of interest. That was one of the reasons for hiring the outside financial advisors, to sift through the unsolicited interest."

Two weeks ago, Tribune Co. hired Evercore and JP Morgan as financial advisors to vet potential bidders.

The editorial staff, since the Tribune took over, is already a bunch of right wing sycophants for the American Enterprise Institute. I don't think the Koch Brothers could improve on it. Maybe they could hire Ann Coulter back. She was even too wacky for the Tribune.

The reason the paper is in bad shape is because they out sourced, fired liberal writers ,cut pay and acted like the kock bros already owned it 10 years ago.
Oh I hate those guys .................

4. The LA Times I once knew sold out when the Tribune Co. took over years ago.

The Koch brothers couldn't turn it into anymore of a fish wrapper than it already become under the Tribune. It once was a liberal newspaper as fine as any in the world back before then.

11. Yep, I know they tried to move back to the center after their experiment with Ann Coulter

and Jonah Goldberg started costing them. But just because they put up some left wing editorials didn't make them sincere about it. I really got pissed when they replaced political cartoonist Conrad with some right winger, Michael Ramirez. I was done with them when that happened.

8. For all its problems, it's the best paper in the state

remember, this is the state where the term "yellow journalism" was coined. It's still alive and well at the SF Chronicle. All the other papers in the Bay Area, including the San Jose Mercury News (remember Gary Webb and the contras?), have been hoovered up by something called MediaNews and are now best suited to lining cat boxes.

9. Great. The paper already posts tons of labor-hating trash.

I guess the Koch bros. decided their spanking in the last election needed a remedy--this time buy the media *and* the elections!

He has much to say about the value of propaganda and what we all know as The Big Lie, in his manifesto, "Mein Kampf". I read somewhere that if people had paid attention to what he said in that tome, history might have been different because he did exactly what he said he was going to do. The intellectual elites of his day laughed at him and busied themselves with other matters while he put his plans into action. I wish the Koch Brothers had a master plan written somewhere so we can anticipate their moves.

But, we don't have anti-trust laws for people who own a little bit of everything..........
