Pope Francis I Is No Fan Of Homosexuality, Abortion, Contraception, And Same-Sex Adoption
-snip-
On same-sex marriage: The new pope has called gay marraige a scheme to destroy Gods plan and a real and dire anthropological throwback. In 2010, he was a vocal opponent of the Argentinian governments proposed legislation to legalize same-sex marriage.
On homosexuality: Bergoglio is reportedly unwaveringly orthodox on such moral issues.
On abortion: He has rallied his clergy against the culture of death that is the pro-abortion movement.
On contraceptives: The new pope strongly opposed Argentinian President Cristina Fernández de Kirchners efforts to distribute free contraceptives, likely seeing it as part of the aforementioned culture of death.
On same-sex adoption: Bergoglio has called it a form of discrimination against children.

Edited to add some good things (since no human is all good or all bad)

... Bergoglio has focused on helping the poor throughout his career, noting, The suffering of innocent and peaceful continues to slap us, the contempt for the rights of individuals and peoples are so far away, the rule of money with his demonic effects as drugs, corruption, trafficking people, including children, along with material and moral poverty are big problems.
In 2001, upon becoming cardinal, Bergoglio discouraged people from spending the money to fly to Rome to celebrate with him and advised that they instead donate the funds to help alleviate poverty at home. He lived in a simple apartment, cooked his own food, and traveled by bus instead of a chauffeured limousine.

(22,165 posts)... I expected no less on the subject of dogma ... but I am somewhat hopeful related to his promotion of social justice.
The last pope was (of course) dogmatic but additionally didn't care (at all) about social justice ... hoping this guy is an improvement

(115,806 posts)Did anyone expect he - or anyone else that might have been appointed - would think differently? Those are the accepted positions of the RCC heirarchy and they are not likely to change any time soon.

(1,004 posts)He was opposing a very specific measure (which, true, he should have supported). He has actually gone on the record as saying contraception is not evil and can be used to prevent the spread of disease, a pretty radical departure from orthodoxy.
As for the rest, what did everyone expect? He's the new leader of the Catholic Church. They take their marching orders from a 2,000 year old book.
I don't have a dog in this hunt at all (atheist), but I'm at least encouraged that he's lead his life, and called out other in the Catholic power structure for not doing so, by the model of the Jesus character: the poor come first, no exceptions.
