Coming off his big win in Florida last night, GOP front-runner Mitt Romney told CNN this morning that helping the poor is not his priority, suggesting that Democrats worry enough about the plight of the poor already:
ROMNEY: Im not concerned with the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, Ill fix it. Im not concerned about the very rich, theyre doing just fine. Im concerned about the very heart of the America. [..]
HOST: You just said said, Im not concerned about the very poor because they have a safety net. But I think there are a lot of very poor Americans who are struggling who would say, that sounds odd. [...]
ROMNEY: The challenge right now we will hear from the Democrat party the plight of the poor. And theres no question its not good being poor. And we have a safety net to help those that are very poor, but campaign is focused is on middle-income Americans. My campaign you can choose where to focus. You can focus on the rich, thats not my focus. You can focus on the very poor, thats not my focus.

(24,721 posts)while he's struggling just to get his party's nomination. He doesn't get the fact that the number of poor people is the vast majority in this country (including working class), & thanks to outsourcing & economic policies that favor the rich, that number is growing; what gives him the smugness to say so openly that he doesn't have concern for the poor? Why is he not concerned about the number of poor people who will be voting in November?

(30,439 posts)What an idiot!! So a millionaire banker that laid off many thousands of people and hid money in offshore bank accounts in order to avoid paying taxes isn't concerned with the very poor. Ya...that'll play well.
