http://www.insideradio.com/Article.asp?id=2629485&spid=32061#.UUUMThyG18F"Another survey reaffirms consumer demand for FM radio in cars. Kelly Music Research asked 500 18-54 year-olds which types of radio would be important if they were buying a car in the next week. FM came in first with 99% saying it was very or somewhat important, followed by satellite radio, internet radio and HD radio. AM came in last, with more than half of respondents calling it not important at all.
explains why more stations are putting hate talk on FM

(38,437 posts)Satellite or nothing. If the car I'm driving doesn't have satellite radio, I use the app on my phone and an FM modulator or the aux input jack.

(31,706 posts)...Satellite and Internet requires monthly fees that you don't pay with an AM or FM. That said, yes...AM has been in decline for a long time and it has few listeners under the age of 55. But then it's 100 year old technology...people aren't still listening to their Victrolas or driving their Model Ts either.
The move of talk to FM is a desperation move by companies like Cheap Channel to attempt to beef up anemic ratings and cut expenses. My bets are if people had to pay for FM as they did for satellite and internet that poll would be very different. A report I read last week stated that Toyota is already thinking of discontinuing equipping AM and FM radios in favor of satellite and internet in two years...
Cheers...

At home I generally listen to radio on the net. Radio SingSing is a current favorite. Beirut Nights provides jump music to clean up the house to.

(100,099 posts)I have an incredibly strict "no talk radio" policy in my car - driving in LA is maddening enough. Last thing I need is something else to aggravate me.
I do make a couple exceptions - the Kevin & Bean show and Angel Talk but nothing else.
