Salary commission proposes 21% pay raise for Hawaii lawmakers

Salary commission proposes 21% pay raise for Hawaii lawmakers

Members of Hawaii's Legislature could get a 21 percent raise in pay this summer under a proposal by the state's salary commission.

KITV reports the salary commission on Monday recommended lawmakers be paid a salary of $55,896 starting July 1, when a 2009 pay cut that froze salaries at $46,272, is set to expire.

KITV reports some lawmakers said the raise would help attract people to the Legislature, but others feel the current salary is fine for the part-time positions.
