9NEWS, so it begins:
The loss of production revenue has been widely cited by gun rights supporters as another unintended consequence of anti-gun legislation passed by Democrats in the legislature and due to be signed into law by Gov. John Hickenlooper.
Senate Republicans headlined a March 8 release on their website, OUTDOOR CHANNEL TO END PRODUCTION IN COLORADO. Republicans claimed the network will be moving all production [out] of Colorado. The source of the claim was an email from Outdoor Channel executive producer Michael Bane to Sen. Steve King (R-Grand Junction)
As you know, the passage of gun safety legislation in Colorado has provoked retaliatory threats to leave the state, primarily from plastic ammunition magazine maker Magpul and some local contractors who supply them. The threat from Outdoor Life Network was taken as evidence that the economic harm resultant from

(16,038 posts)I support a state's right to regulate firearms within the constitution as defined buy several court precedents. I also support state residents to change their lawmakers if they act contrary to resident's wishes. It will be interesting to see what happens to the balance of power in CO over the next few election cycles..Hopefully this doesn't result in a Democratic upset in this state that has balanced between red and blue, leaning blue, over the last decade(s). Further, the state enjoys a $1 billion dollar hunting/fishing revenue stream..I don't know how it will be effected, but there are other states in the region with equally good hunting options for non-resident hunters.

(16,038 posts)Denver? Limon? Cannon City? I'm wondering if a popularity map wouldn't look something like the New York map. If..IF there is a backlash from this it will be in more rural areas who elected a Democrat who ultimately voted in favor. I don't know, and actually don't know what all of the bills even are..People often forget how fragile the balance of voters actually is..

(16,038 posts)Seems if it were about having Dem control, an assault weapons ban would be a shoe-in in the current US Senate, eh?
That said, after reading what the legislation actually is..I am among the 80% nationally who support state initiated requirement for NICS checks on private sales. I have advocated that the NICS system be available for private sales through regulations on FFL holders to make it more attractive to states to enact legislation for several years now.
BTW..been to Denver twice so far this year, my son is moving there in June to go to school..I'll probably be back a few more times this year..love the city and the state..

(16,038 posts)should have been 13+ (Harry said, using the most optimistic numbers, less than forty yes votes.. and there are 53 Democratic senators..) Still, to listen to gun controllers on DU, you would believe only rethugs would oppose such 'common sense legislation', to the point of denial that pro 2nd dems even exist..this count shows the reality of the issue...that there are pro 2nd dems and progressives, and districts which are democratic which also oppose these sorts of 'feel good, do nothing' bills. For the party to deny it will do nothing but hurt the party representation in Washington. Obama didn't get elected by only urban democrats...he couldn't be elected without the help of these rural democratic districts all over the country..
