And the next person that tells me talk radio is informative and educational shall likely get a finger poked in their eye.

Today I learned of 3 new reasons why men in particular become gay.

1. It's too hard to meet and date women
2. Divorce rate is too high and the associated costs drive men away from heterosexual relationships.
3. Some boys never want to become men...so turning to teh gay resolves that whole growing up issue.

I'm serious....the caller said these things and the radio host was expounding and agreeing with it all. This was not the Onion, it wasn't any sort of parody, this was a real dude almost in tears because he felt that all three of these issues were impacting his life and conspiring against him to make him gay.

ETA: Now that I have really started looking around, there are "things" everywhere. I needed to add this 4th reason for teh Gay because is it so pervasive and so important :

Being Gay, I think I have first hand knowledge why I am Gay, some I can list here some I can't.

I will say this though, with all the shit I have had to deal with being Gay, I can assure you it was not a choice.

9. I honestly think this guy sounded conflicted enough....

.....he was grasping for reasons. He literally was choking back tears. If I could wish him something, it would be that he could listen to his own inner talk and gain that first hand knowledge you talked about. The suppression and labelling as "bad", "evil", "wrong, "deviant" etc... appears to be the only thing he had been exposed to.

4. Response to the three reasons

1- That guy likely lives in his mom's basement and has no social skills.
2- Many many people have been through divorces, including me, and most of the "high costs" are associated with child support.
3- There ain't a man alive who wants to grow up, but life (marriage and relationships) sort of forces us into it.
Hell, my wife still says I'm a big old kid because I have a couple of RC cars and occasionally watch cartoons with our kid. But that's ok.
You need to get away from RW talk radio. They are insane over there. All they will do is drive up your bp and make you crazy.

6. Holy crap, I fall under the first two things listed!

Because I travel in the course of my employment, it is difficult to maintain a serious romantic relationship.

I am divorced, though it wasn't my idea at all...one of us was happily married. the other, less so.

So, that make me 2/3 gay?

...and yes, I truly felt sorry for him. He was obviously conflicted and was grasping at issues that he thinks are to 'blame'. He has clearly been given the notion that he is somehow bad or broken or both, and tryng to lay the 'balme' at the feet of external influence.
