Here is a side benefit to raising taxes on the wealthy.

Like I said in my post about the ACA I work for a county alcohol, drug and mental health dept.
I was in a meeting where our FY13-14 budget was explained.
We have a fund or a branch which serves juveniles. I am in CA were we have the Mental Health Services Act. The act imposes a 1% tax on millionaires. The money goes to that fund that serves juveniles.
Because tax rates went up in January, many wealthy in CA sold assets in Dec to take advantage of the lower tax rate.
Selling those assets and paying capital gains plus the 1% millionaire's tax gave the state's MHSA a one time windfall. That means the services for juveniles got a one time windfall and we can serve more kids.

That's great to hear, so many of these important services are underfunded, we need more windfalls like this

I really like the fact they tried to get around it by selling assets but we still managed to get them to hand over some of their fair share.
