Obama on settlements
Obama criticised the continued expansion of Israeli settlements, but says these should not prevent peace talks.
He said he has told Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that settlements activity is not constructive or appropriate. The expansion of settlements in the E1 area does not square with a two state solution, he added.
The core issue is how to achieve sovereignty for the Palestinians and security for the Israelis, the US president told the press conference.

Why does every president have to say he's behind them 100%? Why do we give them money? Why do we have to pretend there is going to be peace when neither side wants peace?
We should pull out of the Middle East altogether. But that will never happen. The last 4 years have made me very cynical.

Obama: Palestinians Deserve A State Of Their Own
Speaking at a joint press conference with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Thursday, President Obama said the U.S. is committed to the creation of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state.
"The Palestinian people deserve an end to occupation and the daily indignities that come with it," Obama said. "Palestinians deserve to move and travel freely and to feel secure in their communities. ... Palestinians deserve a future of hope, that their rights will be respected, that tomorrow will be better than today and that they can give their children a life of dignity and opportunity. Put simply, Palestinians deserve a state of their own."
