http://www.tampabay.com/opinion/columns/editorial-ayn-rands-formula-for-hoops-success/2112003A while ago I posted about how FGU was taken away from USF as part of the ego of Florida's greedy little Prince,JD Alexander. This article describes the school he created. What is sad is, there will be a second college made, Florida Tech, which was also carved out if the USF campus.

(10,450 posts)I'm not a huge fan of college basketball, or basketball in general. But I know that a small school can have a glorious run if they sink a lot of money into the program, get a decent coach, and a couple of outstanding players. (e.g. Butler and George Mason Universities). They aren't perennial powerhouses like the big State Schools (Indiana, Kentucky, OSU, UCLA, etc.) But they can make a lot of noise on the way up. It sounds to me like FGCU isn't as much the tail wagging the dog as much as they're taking on the "athletics are more important than academics" and running with it. It also sounds like a bit like the usual West Coast of Florida (the conservative coast) vs. the Atlantic Coast (liberal coast).

(13,616 posts)and liberal as hell,as we have the mayors to prove it, which is why when FGU was made, Alexander sliced off USF's fort myers campus, just like he later did with the lakland campus to form Florida Tech. How much you wanna bet Fl tech becomes an ayn rand bastion?
