It's now okay to say Komen sucks

(Thanks to DUer phantom power for posting this in another thread. I think it deserves its own OP.)

It's OK To Say You Suck

Just echoing what tbogg had already said, but what Komen has done is made it ok to point out that they kind of suck. And they kind of sucked before all this, but not many people ever want to rain on the pink paradise parade. They managed to associate their brand with a cause, and to criticize the brand was to criticize the cause.

Now we all get to say: you suck hard.

***********************************************

I think this makes a terrific point. I haven't cared for Komen for quite a long time. My personal experiences with them made me research them, and I discovered alot of unsavory things about them, many of which are hitting the media now. Thank goodness!

However, you could never say anything bad about them, because if you did, you were accused of being against fighting breast cancer. Every year, coworkers and acquaintances would try to bully and shame me into giving them a donation for their "Race for the Cure" 5k. If you ever tried to bring up the reasons why Komen sucked, they would get very angry. Or, I just wouldn't bring it up. It's hard to do when you know the woman browbeating you is wearing a wig and has had reconstructive breast surgery.

So, I'm glad to be able to say publicly and clearly: KOMEN, YOU SUCK!

Susan G. Komen Foundation Elbows Out Charities Over Use Of The Word 'Cure'

In addition to raising millions of dollars a year for breast cancer research, fundraising giant Susan G. Komen for the Cure has a lesser-known mission that eats up donor funds: patrolling the waters for other charities and events around the country that use any variation of "for the cure" in their names.

So far, Komen has identified and filed legal trademark oppositions against more than a hundred of these Mom and Pop charities, including Kites for a Cure, Par for The Cure, Surfing for a Cure and Cupcakes for a Cure--and many of the organizations are too small and underfunded to hold their ground.

Who have had to spend ALOT of their funds on legal fees.

That's what McDonald's does.

by those running the foundation named in her honor. Nancy Brinker and Karen Handel suck, bigtime. Susan G. Komen, not so much.

low on the work, but what they did was raise awareness and support other good causes.

now they have dumped Planned Parenthood and stem cell research in one fell swoop.

komen is done.

Somehow, I started to discover 3 or 4 years ago how badly they suck.
However, I know quite a few women who were totally into them, buying all the pink stuff and doing the run for the cure things. So I kept my mouth shut.

Now, many of those same women are all over Facebook this week saying how badly they suck.
Frankly, I'm glad I kept my mouth shut, and I don't want the opportunity to say "I told you so."
That just wouldn't be good for anybody...

I don't think that's going to change the fact that they suck.
And they may have irreversibly damaged their brand.

Hopefully, all the nice people who were into them, will now be willing to look past the pink veil, and see that they are a money-making venture disguised as a non-profit...

I guess they weren't as many supportive messages as they said they were. Or donations.
