3. Unfortunately, this is true for the majority of charities.

Non-profits don't have to spend more than a third of what they rake in on actual research and giving. The rest can be used for administrative costs. Granted much of it is used for advertising, but an inordinate amount goes for fat cat salaries. I am very selective whom I donate to for this reason.
