People cheered and handed out 'Maggie death cake' today at one of several street parties held to celebrate Margaret Thatcher's death.
Video of the gathering in LEEDS was posted on YouTube and shows dozens of people whooping in delight.
A man can be seen using a megaphone chanting: "Maggie, Maggie, Maggie", to which the crowd reply "dead, dead, dead".
One woman, offering the cameraman "Thatcher death cake", tells him: "We're celebrating."
The former Prime Minister died peacefully this morning aged 87 at the Ritz Hotel after suffering a stroke.

(7,804 posts)I expect celebratory raves for Thatcher, but for Blair.... ooooh he was just a deeply treacherous little creature. I have no idea how anyone's going to respond to that man's death. She destroyed the ideology of the UK, but he resurrected it and then hogtied it in the market square and shat on it, laughing.

It's not hard to conclude that she was suffering from dementia while in office, not unlike Ronald Reagan. Conservatives have a penchant for picking demented or just plain stupid leaders.

But she's responsible for the union-busting and destruction of the coal industry in the northern UK, she tried hitting the country with the Poll Tax - a fixed tax for every adult in the UK - which led to riots and her downfall.
She protected Pinochet, called Nelson Mandela a terrorist, and drove countless millions of people into economic ruin and misery.

Anyone who breaks into the boys club gets a thumbs up from me, but thats as far as it goes. I can admire her ability to lead while vehemently opposing her political ideology. Cheney is a worse criminal than many in prison yet he can get on The View and be treated as a saint and we the 99% have to sit and take it. But the grim reaper will eventually get him and we will celebrate that he finally found someone more powerful than himself.
I dont wish Cheney to die, just rot in prison. Is that too much to ask?

(20,599 posts)Her ideas have outlived and will continue to outlive her, and they are a poisonous cancer upon the entire human race. She most certainly is doing still a very great deal of harm, through the legacy of her ideas (such as they are), and most of us know that. The gravedancing is not only deserved, but bought, paid for, and most definitely earned in every sense of the word.
That woman did a very very very great deal of harm, and dealt a very very very great deal of suffering and misery, to an enormous population of people who deserved nothing of the kind. As brief as Cheney and Bush were in office, and with as much harm as they themselves did, they both together do not hold so much as a paper match from a barroom book to the evils of the Great Old Poisonous Cancer-Witch Margaret Fucking Thatcher.
I for one am deeply thankful that old fucking bat is dead, and I hope she's burning beyond the reference, comprehension, or bitterest experience of the living, in the very very deepest of the Christian hells.

Today, when I turned it on they were genuflecting at the altar of Maggie and Ronnie. Seems a little excessive for a mean and nasty woman of the 80's. When I turn off the TV at night it's been on MSNBC for the late night reruns and therefore is on MSNBC in the a.m., which is why I get exposed to bits of Killer Joe that I accidentally hear before hitting the remote.
