Would they applaud it? Would they criticize Obama for not preventing it? How would they spin it as a negative for Obama?
Would they say Obama should have had the U.S. take action? Would they jump on Obama if we get involved in another war? Or would they be pro-war?
I don't know if these are naive questions or if I'm just not well informed as to what the political fallout would be if this happened.

(29,047 posts)That way, they can maintain both of their positions: killing brown people is awesome, and President Obama is terrible.

(5,957 posts)They would likely support Isreal in any case, but would be much more vocal in their support if Obama comes out against their action. If Isreal does attck Iran it will put Obama in an awkward position - if he comes out against Isreal he risks losing the Jewish vote (which the Republicans would seek to gain with high profile support for Isreal). If he comes out in support of Isreal, he risks backlash from Progressives. In that case, high profile support for Isreal would likely enhance Obama with Independents, so Republican support would be more muted.

(8,556 posts)I think they might have trouble maintaining discipline over there. You'd have some people supportive, a much smaller number not, and most trying to figure out what is the best way to benefit politically from it. That's hard to tell. If it gets too out of control, you'd probably see them come down on the 'US as peace broker' end in order to get the oil flowing again and not affect world economies too badly.
Those arguing the US should get directly involved would probably get a paddling behind closed doors from the leadership. I don't think they would want to stake their careers and reputations on another war without one of their own leading it.
But that's all speculation off of the top of my head. I really don't know.

(39,909 posts)I am worried that TPTB (Repubs & Dems) have already given Israel the A-OK to start a new war with Iran.
The Drums ARE beating.

(3,147 posts)then the action by Israel was wrong and they will denounce it and blame the President for allowing it to happen. If they bomb Iran and it works to our advantage, they will say that Israel did what the President should have done.

(30,439 posts)They'll applaud Israel for bombing Iran, but they'll say they had no choice because of Obama's policies and they'll criticize Obama too.
