Report: NFL will meet with New York attorney general's office over sexual orientation questions

Members of the New York attorney general’s office will meet with the NFL today to seek more information into how and why draft prospects at the Scouting Combine were asked questions regarding their sexual orientation.

Last week, the NFL announced that it had determined no clubs were in violation two months ago at the combine even though Colorado tight end Nick Kasa said in an interview that he was asked about liking girls. The NFL said it has made its policies clear to all teams and that such questions are not permitted.

Judy Battista of the New York Times reported about the meeting that will take place today and indicated the attorney general’s office will seek a better explanation than has already been offered. Per the report, it will “press the league” about what steps have been put in place to ensure similar questions are not a part of the screening process in the future.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is not expected to attend the meeting. Teams are certainly going to want to come up with more creative ways to dance around these questions if they really deem it necessary to have answers to them in the future. Otherwise, they could not worry about a player’s sexual orientation and proceed as is with football decisions.
