Many people are wrong.
The number of women who owned guns spiked to 23% in 2011, compared to 13% in a 2005 Gallup poll. While the organization hasn't released updated statistics yet, most think the rates will continue to rise.

...Since I started shooting I've taken up weight-lifting and started studying nutrition and trying to eat right. It has made a huge difference in my self-esteem and helped me to realize the extent of control I have over myself, much as shooting does. I would encourage every woman shooter not to stop there, but to continue to step outside of her comfort zone and find other activities that energize and empower her to be the best she can.

(5,957 posts)Women are far more likely to be victims of rape and domestic violence. They shouldn't have access to effective self defense? Your post is asinine.

Here are some more asinine facts for you.
Women are more likely to be killed with their own gun than they are likely to use it for defense.
A study of risk factors for violent death of women in the home found that women living in homes with 1 or more guns were more than 3 times more likely to be killed in their homes. The same study concluded that women killed by a spouse, intimate acquaintance, or close relative were 7 times more likely to live in homes with 1 or more guns and 14 times more likely to have a history of prior domestic violence compared to women killed by non-intimate acquaintances.7
Family and intimate assaults with firearms are 12 times more likely to result in death than non-firearm assaults. This research suggests that limiting access to guns will result in less lethal family and intimate assaults.

On edit: I'll save you from posting this gunner talking point, "that study is flawed." Now you don't have to waste your time posting that asinine statement.

(5,957 posts)It should be up to the women to make the choice. It should not be up to someone else to decide for them. I know lots of women and the vast majority are smart enough to consider the facts and make rational decision. You don't disagree, do you?
