I didn't see them in any pictures, only law enforcement and the Armed Forces.
I guess they are simply unneeded......

(75,480 posts)I know. I have seen the compounds from the road and even have run into some of the residents in town displaying their open carry. Somehow I hate to think of their reaction if something like Boston happened in their territory especially if the perps were ferin muslims.

(20,411 posts)probably the word "solved" was ill-chosen. My point was that it was not an "armed"citizen - but a citizen who called "armed authorities" . . . and it worked. Wayne L must hate that.

Fortunately, Massachusetts has some good gun laws that kept yahoos off the streets with their lethal weapons. Otherwise, the yahoos would have been a bigger danger than the bomber as they "hunted" him for a chance to shoot someone and be a hero.
Once again, law enforcement proved much better at this than yahoos with guns.

How many of these guys in this picture have planted a bomb.
Do you realize how dumb ass of a statement you just made?

(54,770 posts)These guys are fuckers.
The video shows the typical yahoo that carries guns on our streets.
Finally, those that don't carry and collect guns are much less likely to shoot or intimidate people with their guns -- that's a fact that gun nuts can't argue with. Had Zimmerman, not had a gun, he would have remained in his car and Trayvon Martin would be alive today.
As to "dumb ass statements" -- LMAO

(14,912 posts)generalized bigotry in any way, shape or form.... and this is coming to you straight from a former, reformed racist. It took an amazing journey for me to be where I am today... a PROUD Liberal Democrat and a FORMER member of a notorious white supremacy gang.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I always thought that part of being a Liberal was the ability to live and let live. To show tolerance and compassion for everyone, and even more so for those who are different than ourselves. I'm not ashamed of my past because the journey out of that darkness led me to the enlightenment I know, love and enjoy today. There were many kind souls from all walks of life who guided me along the way.
When all is said and done, however, neither of us will change the others minds about guns. I was raised around them all my life, as were my now grown children. We all have a deep respect for them, we know the carnage, and shattered lives and broken hearts and unfulfilled dreams that their misuse can cause, but what we DON'T have is an irrational fear and/or loathing of them like some people here do.
How wonderful it would be to live in a world of Peace and Tolerance, but until that time comes, I plan to hold on to my guns to defend myself and my family, or to possibly have to hunt game to eat.
Peace to you and yours,
Ghost

(54,770 posts)The latter at least has some justification for carrying guns.
I was brought up around guns too. Taught to field strip a 1911 by 10 years old, and had my first target rifle around the same age. Luckily, I matured -- saw that guns really aren't good for society.
I'm not too concerned about someone who keeps one or two guns at home, for self defense or hunting.
Unfortunately, most gun cultists today are into assault weapons (and multiple units), high cap mags, special loads, special sights (as one of our gungeon cultists put it, they might have to clear a room), strapping guns on to venture out, they view our country as a war zone or something, and worse. And they promote/encourage others to do the same. That's just not good for society. And, as you provide further evidence -- are likely bigots, at least when they started to love their lethal weapons.

Hoyt
(54,770 posts)bubba category. Right wing gun cultists make up majority of gun owners. I'd say a significant portion of gun cultists who consider themselves "liberal" are certainly suspect, although I'll reserve judgement on those who have not directly approved of the militia/bubba/bigot types (or at least indicated tolerance for them since they a gun promoters too).

I'm for reasonable gun control, things like a mag. limit modeled on what CO. just passed, I'm all for the UBC, more stringent penalties for straw purchase's, better reporting by the states to the NICS, better mental health care.
Why is it that you guys always brand someone you don't agree with on firearms as NRA talking points?

(3,731 posts)You do know that neither one of these terrorists were able to legally purchase a firearm, don't you?
The older brother was disqual. because of a domestic violence conviction and he wasn't an american citizen,
the younger brother was too young to be able to legally by a firearm from an FFL dealer.

(3,731 posts)Whether private or from a dealer, all purchase of firearms have to have a background check done.
I read somewhere yesterday that these 2 terrorists got a handgun and rifle from the cop the shot and killed, if true, then the UBC wouldn't have made a damn bit of difference.

(1,382 posts)So if he bought it on line, or crossed State lines to purchase them, it was done illegally. That is the point, the same laws you are screaming for were already in place in Massachusetts.
The older brother could not legally buy a firearm, the younger could not buy a handgun (under age 21) so they already broke the law, so no new law would make a difference!

(3,731 posts)Buying a gun in a state that's you're not a residence of and transporting it to your home state without going through an FFL dealer, is a Federal crime.
Just for the record, I do support UBC and the Senate should have voted to send it to the House, what poisoned the well, so to speak, was Sen. Feinstein's AWB, which garnered only 40 votes, and her mag. limit, which garnered only 45 votes.
Maybe, just maybe if she hadn't introduced those two poison pills, which she damn well knew ahead of time that they had no chance of passing, we would've gotten a decent gun control bill, but she just couldn't leave it alone and now, for the time being, we've got nothing.
That was dropped long before Tuesday's vote. As for what you "read somewhere." They didn't get 200 rounds off a cop. Both brothers had guns. As in all cases on gun deaths, the dead cop in Boston is another notch in the belt of the gun lobby and it's minions who actively promote murder in this country. But gun homicide generates profit, and that is what really matters.
Interesting how you have decided to blame Democrats trying to save lives for failure of legislation voted down primarily by Republicans.

Notice he says with over 200 rounds being shot? That means a total between both parties.
Just her proposing the AWB and mag limit was enough to mobilize the pro gun forces, whether you believe it or not.
I blame Sen. Feinstein for proposing an AWB and a mag limit, which she knew had zero chance of passing, for poisoning the well, without it, we could have gotten a decent bill that would actually have done some good.
