And what is the point of having a serial number on a gun if it cant be used to solve crime?

(32,030 posts)I don't know where they got their guns but the background check bill would not have stopped them. They had no felonies and had not been declared mentally ill. Under the present system they could have gone to any dealer and the dealer would have done a background check. That is the current law. They would have passed and could have bought their guns.

If they went to another state would these conditions show up on a background check?
They may not have been able to buy guns legally if background checks were what they should be.

(32,030 posts)A background check has to made by a FFL dealer in your home state. So yes these conditions would show up under current law. I think we will very soon find out they did not act "by themselves".

(3,731 posts)he was denied citizenship, so there's another reason he would be disqualified from firearm ownership.
In MA, the younger brother could legally own a shotgun or a rifle.
There's a report somewhere that they also stole the long gun, handgun and high cap. mags from the MIT police officer they murdered.
I'll see if I can find it and post it.
