CNN.com reports: Al Michaels, play-by-play announcer for NBC's "Sunday Night Football," was arrested and charged with misdemeanor DUI in Southern California on Friday night, Santa Monica police said.

Michaels was arrested shortly before 10 p.m. He was described by police as extremely cooperative, was released on his own recognizance Saturday morning and has a June 26 court date.

made me remember being a child in the audience of Peter Pan and being asked if I believe in fairies. Are we supposed to applaud if we believe in breathalizers?

court. It's up to the judge to decide weather it was a DUI arrest or not based on the evidence.

that phrase just drove this ridiculous thought in my mind, totally off topic, mea culpa.

The post is referencing Michaels' emotional "Do You Believe in Miracles?" shout after US defeated USSR in 1980 Olympic hockey game.

to have alcohol breath is to eat cashews. Now this won't work for a heavy drinker, but for those people who had a couple of beers and were picked off by the Santa Monica police, they swear it worked quite well. SM police are notorious for stopping cars after closing times. Now that the level of intoxication on the breathalyzer has been lowered to .08%, if they smell any alcohol on your breath at all they will put you through the routine alcohol tests and the breathalyzer. By eating cashews there won't be that tell tale alcohol odor unless the cops have wised up to the cashew fix.

As a disclaimer, I never tried it myself as I was usually very sober driving home at that time because no drinking was allowed on the job.
