life. My bet is he'll get the dp- which I'm opposed to in this case as I oppose it in all others, but the dp might be kinder than this:
The United States Penitentiary, Administrative Maximum Facility (ADX) is an American federal supermax prison for male inmates located in Fremont County, Colorado.[2][3] It is unofficially known as ADX Florence, Florence ADMAX, Supermax, or the Alcatraz of the Rockies.[4] Part of the Florence Federal Correctional Complex, which is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice, it houses the inmates in the federal prison system who are deemed the most dangerous and in need of the tightest control.

(1,504 posts)sentence for Patty Hurst. One could easily argue that he was under total control by his Islamic handlers and his brother.

There is no way he will succeed with a Stockholm defense ... no way ....

(1,504 posts)whom he adored? I can't guarantee that that will be the defense but if I was a betting man, I might lay some money down.

(37,648 posts)incommunicado for a long time, where the kidnapper deprives the hostage of all privacy and social interaction, and there is even sensory deprivation. I've read that's part of Stockholm Syndrome.
That's not the case here, as far as we know. It doesn't matter if he "did what his big brother wanted him to do."
Even if he hadn't planted a bomb himself, and walked away coolly, if he had participated in any way, he could be found guilty of the crime nonetheless. Isn't there a law that when you participate in a crime that results in death or harm to another, the perps are all equally guilty?

Once you sign up with someone to kill and maim you deserve the consequences.

They can try it, but it won't work. Americans are stupid, but not that stupid.

(2,149 posts)When I was watching the news regarding the missing alleged bomber, after his brother had already died. Knowing what I know about the Supermax, I think suicide would have been my personal choice, had I been him. He's a young guy, and the thought of spending the rest of my life there would be unbearable.

(16,038 posts)amount of adjustment. There may be some who could learn to deal with the solitude. The younger a prisoner, the more adaptive...reality of the situation sets in and they deal with it..most find some level of enjoyment of life..at least not suicidal hatred..

(16,038 posts)ADX and MAX a few times..he will go there. Such an interesting history of that area of CO..Prisons set in beautiful landscapes and few windows out. Prisoners in ADX get 30 minutes per day and can only see the sky. The Royal Gorge close by, a place only upstaged by the Grand Canyon for the overwhelming vastness and feeling of freedom...

(30,947 posts)I took Amtrak from Miami to Philadelphia. It was a compartment and sort of a large closet. In fact, the bed folded down over the toilet. So I think the cell would be a lot roomier.

(37,648 posts)What a horror for the world if those men are able to mass escape. It would be absolute mayhem and pure torture for a lot of innocent people.

(102,291 posts)I'm in no way defending him, but I think the DP for the older brother would have been a given... I strongly suspect enough mitigating circumstances (including his age) will be presented so that he will be convicted but receive life.
I just don't see him coming across to a jury like a Tim McVeigh--remorseless and in charge of making all the decisions.

(4,426 posts)When they are let out for exercise, they are not permitted to interact with anyone except their guards. Within a few years, he will be quite mad. A sad waste of a life.
That being said, I don't really care. He gave up any right to a non-hellish remainder of his life when he set that bag down and walked away.
