A wonderful group of fifth graders visited my second grade class and gave a presentation on Earth Day. They were visibly nervous, but they shouldn't have been. To my second graders, they are "big kids", and I think they were flattered that the fifth graders were taking their time to talk to them.
It was so cute to see their projects, and hear their earnest advice about how to take care of the earth. After school today they sponsored a campus trash pickup and flower planting event.
Every time I talk to elementary grade students about conservation and "green" issues I am amazed at how seriously they take it and how quickly they seem to understand its importance. It's similar to how young people "take" to technology.
I felt very positive about Earth Day and our future today. Just wanted to share that with everyone amid all the horrific news lately.
Happy Earth Day!
